About Us
Hi. I’m Joseph Longhany, your new writing consultant. I started out doing consulting work during graduate school when I was trained and worked in UCF’s University Writing Center. During two years working at the writing center, I worked with graduate students across many disciplines and backgrounds. From anthropology to zoology, and from PhD candidates to professors publishing academic journal articles, I have consulted people from a range of disciplines and abilities. Since graduating and moving on from the writing center in 2008, I have gone on to teach writing courses at UCF, Seminole State College, and several career colleges in the Orlando area.
When I started graduate school, I struggled a bit to find my own voice as a writer, but knowing what it is like to search for my voice helps me to relate to clients. As a client, the writing center helped me develop my voice, and when I became a consultant, I learned how to help others. I know what it is like to have the ideas but not have the means to get those ideas to the page. I also know what it is like to collaborate, build solutions, and find approaches to create interesting and successful written products.
Currently, Customized Writing Solutions serves a variety of clients including a banker who sells commercial loans who is pursuing professional development in leadership, an MA student pursuing criminal justice leadership who also operates Rocksound Security Training Academy, and a PhD candidate in industrial psychology who specializes in physiology and sports psychology.
